Since their opening in Valencia in 2018, ‘Blondes, Brunettes & Redheads Hair Studio’ have been going from strength to strength. Located in the trendy neighbourhood of Ruzafa, Blondes, Brunettes and Redheads Studio is run by Pierre and Yohe. An expat couple who decided to pack up from Holland and live the dream life in Valencia, Spain.
Like many expats, Pierre and Yohe runs a business in the city of Valencia. With over 30 years experience Pierre specialises in providing quality hair styling service for many expatriates and locals in the area. In addition, they also run the Expats & Expats In Business In Valencia Facebook group where expats like myself can network and find out general business information in and around Valencia.
Pierre was looking for a graphic designer in Valencia to redesign his salon price list as soon as possible. He wanted a clear, easy to read design that can be both easily shared across social media and in a printable format suitable for a large poster in his studio.
When I met Pierre at his chic salon located in Calle Centelles, Ruzafa, I immediately noticed his eclectic style. The black and gold decor stood out to me and I knew that I wanted to include this on the new design.
After our informal chat about how great it is to live in this part of the world, we spoke in detail about what kind of design he was looking for. Pierre is very open-minded and was willing to let me re-create the leaflet in whatever style I see fit.
The Old Design
The old design was simple and divided in to three parts. .
I made a couple of sketches, one for a portrait style, and the other a landscape design. I wanted Pierre to have two options to see how they both would look in different layouts. Keeping with the dark and gold theme I set about creating a design that I know would compliment his business.
The Final Leaflet Redesign
Using the style of the salon and his logo as basis for inspiration, and a few revisions, we agreed on the design below.
I wanted to use a mixture of both serif and sans serif fonts. Using the serif for the titles and an easy to read san-serifs for the rest of the content. Touches of gold and yellow accents for the headings and titles make the leaflet easier to read and follow.
Pierre also preferred to use his images instead of using generic stock photos therefore I added his own image at the bottom corner to give a subtle splash of colour into the design.
After a couple of days of creating samples and drafts, Pierre choose the portrait style price list which, in addition to being suitable for sharing on social media, can also be printed and placed in a frame to display in his salon.
It was a pleasure working with Pierre. He was open to suggestions and revised my work in a timely manner. The entire leaflet redesign took five days from meeting to the final design being handed over.
